Social Work Internship
University at Buffalo Counseling Services offers a Masters' level Social Work Internship for 2nd year, Mental Health Concentration, Social Work students or advanced standing students completing their MSW at UB. Interns develop an individual learning contract based on their skill level, areas of expertise and identified learning goals. Students complete 480 hours of internship in this second field placement. The following is a list of potential learning activities:
- Providing comprehensive psycho-social evaluations, utilizing a multi-axis diagnosis.
- Assessing and providing referrals to appropriate services on campus or in the community.
- Individual, couples, group counseling.
- Outreach opportunities on a variety of topics to different groups on campus.
- Case consultation within a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, masters level trainees from psychology and mental health programs, as well as consultations with Health Center and Wellness team members.
- Weekly individual supervision, as well as group supervision and group consultation (for group co-leaders).
- Case presentations.
